"City Government is more than a caretaker of sewers, streets, parking, and garbage collection. It is a magician creating gold by its powers over zoning and procurement. Weak politicians who fail to defend against liberty-stripping laws and international treaties are jettisoning these powers.
Homelessness is not a crime. Neither is it inevitable or necessary. It is a result of elitist greed, cowardess of decision makers, and arrogance. Homelessness and poverty breed drug abuse, violence, and death as desperate lives seek relief. The first duty of city politicians is to the most needy electorate. Only then can councillors protect and maintain the high quality of life of all citizens, including the comfortable and fortunate. The two are inseperably connected, not mutually exclusive.
